Why We Need This Position

Innovation isn’t just about great ideas. It also involves building a lot of physical stuff—protypes and mockups that allow us to see what those ideas look like in reality. And in order to build that stuff, we need a well-equipped shop filled with all the right tools, which need to be maintained to ensure optimal functioning and safety. That’s where you come in. We need someone like you to keep our shop in good working order and monitor shop safety at every level to ensure it’s set up for us to do our best work.

Who We’re Looking For

A responsible individual with deep knowledge of shop tools and equipment; an obsessive approach to safety; excellent organizational skills to help develop and oversee the various aspects of protyping projects; and a flexible, can-do attitude in the face of many demands. Sound like you? Read on for details.

First, we need an expert who can oversee or perform shop tool and equipment operation and maintenance. This includes conducting the final review of tools to ensure maintenance has been suitably completed; hiring contractors; maintaining documentation; training other personnel on it; ordering supplies as needed; and ensuring that all safety protocols are being followed. Second, we need your help maintaining the general facility, which includes an in-depth knowledge of building and facility systems and operations and safety measures. Third, you are responsible for preparing cost estimates including, but not exclusive to selecting, supervising, and obtaining estimates from outside vendors; prioritizing tracking, handling, and maintaining records of costs. Fourth, you will support project planning, including space planning and configuration; developing project plans, coordinating projects, and completing them on time and within budget. Finally, you’re game for helping with various miscellaneous tasks that come up, whether that’s transporting prototypes to other Seattle-area facilities or pitching in for Boeing POC construction. In short, if you know your way around a shop; can juggle multiple competing demands with grace; and like the prospect of working with others to do a job well, we’d like to hear what you have to say.
